using proxy

A proxy server is a kind of buffer between your computer and the Internet resources you are accessing. The data you request come to the proxy first, and only then it transmits the data to you. Unless it uses some tricks, the site you are accessing does not know you are using a proxy.

There 3 diferent proxy types:
  1. Transparent - HTTP proxy server reveals all. Usable only for transfer speed improvement.
  2. Anonymous - HTTP proxy server doesn't send any variables with your real IP to host, but it sends variables indicating that you are using proxy.
  3. High Anonymity - HTTP proxy server doesn't send ANY variables indicating that you are using proxy server to host.
A proxy is limited to your browser and a few other application such as an Instant Messenger. P2P, IRC and many other cannot use a normal proxy, they require socks(a diferent protocol) proxy.
So if you are looking for a sollution to work on all your programs, no matter that it is email reader, web browser or a simple TCP script, you have to use Virtual Private Networking.

You should ask now why proxies still exist and why doesnt everyone switch to virtual private network.
They exist because they are much more portable and easier to find. If you require a proxy from a country like Chile let's say, you can find it in a few minutes. But a virtual private network sollution in Chile could be impossible to find at all, and even if you find it, it will require a lot of money while the proxy is usually free or very cheap. myspace proxy
