Master Boot Record Viruses

MBR is master boot record, the first sector of a data storage device. It is used for partition tables or OS loading programs such as LILO or Grub.

So a MBR virus will infect this particular area instead of normal files as usually. The easiest way to remove a MBR virus is to clean the MBR area, but first you have to make sure there is no important data/program there that could affect your computer normal operations. Cleaning can be simply made from MSDOS/command promt with the command: fdisk /mbr

Warning: Some older systems use DDO (Dynamic Driver Overlay) to read beyond BIOS capabilities, so if the MBR boot code becomes corrupted or is replaced by another utility or is deleted, your system may not boot and the DDO will not be loaded.
